Sometime in the late 20th C it was determined inappropriate for the Nativity scene to be depicted on public property and the crecehe that had been traditionally located on Monument Circle was relocated to the yard of Chirst Church Episcopal. When I was working with Terry Bradbury on the design for a new choir balcony and organ by Taylor and Boody in 1992, we picked up a side project to design a new shelter for the Italian wood sculpted features, being restored by John Brooks. Designed as a kit, it was knocked over by the 2006 wind storm that disrupted a John Mellencamp concert, but was set right and has continued to be set up and knocked down annually. Due to its prominent location it is probably the greatest contribution to the city’s architectural culture of my carrer.
