Downtown is of, by, and for the rich, the entitled, and sports fans. My family can’t afford a Colts game, Ruth’s Chris, or St. Elmo’s. Georgia Street during events is jammed full of entitled drunks being obnoxious. Car-centric streets downtown are full of speeding cars ignoring pedestrians (zero speed or traffic enforcement by IMPD downtown) , and illegally-operated electric rental scooters forcing their way down the sidewalks make downtown even less hospitable to bicyclists on the streets, and pedestrians everywhere. So why should I care to see MORE public dollars invested downtown? How about investing those public dollars in bike/pedestrian infrastructure OUTSIDE downtown, so that low-income Indy residents (who can’t afford to live or recreate downtown) can actually enjoy the benefits of that investment? Forget downtown, and let the rich have it.
